Blaming The Victim For Gay Teen Suicide

  1. The scary part of this diagram is that, for me, it mirrors a lot of what I've actually heard people saying. Out loud, in public, no holding back.

How anybody could say that some deserves to die based on their sexual preferences is beyond me.

  2. Becca, I think it's easier for them to think about things that way because they don't think they're saying gay kids "deserve to die", because the youths are killing themselves. If it's suicide instead of murder, if it's something they do to themselves instead of a hate crime, they can say it's not their fault. Not that I would really know, but I think that it's the flawed reasoning for why they don't have to be held accountable for their actions.
