Lady Gaga at Gay Rights Rally

Lady Gaga is a very powerful advocate for the LGBT community. Since the start of her career and throughout her rise to fame she has supported the LGBT community. In this clip she is challenging Obama and his administration to fulfill the promises that they made to the LGBT community. She also promises that she will not tolerate misogynistic or homophobic behavior in the music industry at all.

  1. Lady Gaga is a very interesting figure. It seems that she has taken upon the popular and media image of LGBT equality. She seems to be the embodiment of progress and the advancement of our generation and her performance and work for the LGBT community is invaluable. In a sense, it is almost as if she is the conduit between the people and the Obama as she continues to reflect the Gay community's pressure on the administration. Lady Gaga is a priceless asset to the LGBT community and the more popular she grows, the more pressure is put on the government to reprimand their oppressive laws.
Although this may seem a little controversial, I was just wondering how much do you think Lady Gaga actually cares about the LGBT community and how much do you think she is doing this just for the fame and support. Whatever her incentives may be, at least it promotes LGBT equality nevertheless.

  2. I have to agree with the comment above about how much does Lady GaGa actually care about LGBT rights. I would assume that she must care on a personal level because if the allegations are true about her being transgendered and bi, these issues pertain to her life as well.

Either way, I am always on the fence about the incentives behind celebrities getting involved in politics. I know its good that they are promoting equality either way, but I think it could be damaging in other ways to have celebrities care about political issues just to make themselves look good. These issues become trendy and I feel that sometimes celebrities encourage people to get active only short term rather than long term because eventually these issues are no longer trendy. Anyways those are just my thoughts.
