There couldn’t be a video that exemplifies more the term of acceptance than this. This is Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful and it depicts how all individuals are beautiful regardless of what others think. Whether society accepts them or not doesn’t matter, like Christina says, “'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say/Words can't bring you down, oh no/You are beautiful in every single way/Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no/So don't you bring me down today”. I really like this video. I don’t remember what exactly she was getting at, but when this video came out I remember it exploded because of the message, and it was especially embraced by the gay community... like a music “it gets better” video. I am deeply impressed with Christina as a 90s pop star because this video is incredibly forward. 90s pop/mainstream music was typically very conformist (and constructed/enforced the image of beauty and desirability). Typically artists like Britney/Christina/NSYNC/backstreet did not address these kinds of delicate issues.
