Openly gay activist and sex-advice columnist Dan Savage has been encouraging LGBT people who have had bad experiences in high school to post videos to YouTube.com called the "It Gets Better" project. The first one, made by Dan and his husband Terry is below.
The idea is stop gay teen suicides by letting them know if they can just make it through high school, life gets better.
It is tragic that sometimes adolescents do not think they can share their homosexuality with others, especially their own family members. Personally, my brother dealt with this problem. It was easy for him to come out to my sister, mother, cousins and I; but when it came to my father, he could not do it. All of us told him that he had to be the one to do it, and though I understand his hesitation, it took him 3 years to finally tell him. It makes sense that many gay teens feel uncomfortable coming out because of the cruel world we face--but this video is right, it does get better. My brother is a lot happier now that he is fully out and my father was glad he finally told him the truth--it was easy to suspect.http://gawker.com/5652378/whats-it-like-to-be-a-gay-teen also looks into the article Professor Buckmire sent out earlier and the troubles that gay teens face.
