Caster Semenya

Here is a picture of Caster Semenya that we talked about in class today!


In this article, we learn that Semenya is both male and female, but I wonder, why does her gender matter in the long run? Is it because of which medal to give her, where to categorize her as a runner, or simply because society feels as though they must have a cut and dry version of whether a person is male or female?
