Wow... I feel like this is way too poignant for a McDonald's commercial. And has nothing to do with food. At the same time, its also awesome. Because McDonald's is embracing the as-you-are aspect of diversity, a multi billion dollar corporation is now supporting the gay rights movement. This ad is a political statement, not a food advertisement.
Wow, I'm super surprised at this ad! After years of hating McDonald's for being so deliciously fattening and disgusting, I now have a soft spot for them. I wish they would air that kind of ad in the United States, but the majority of U.S. citizens is definitely not going to embrace that and it's almost 100% assured that there will be boycotting of McDonald's restaurants because of their support of the gay rights movement.
This commerical made me both very happy and very sad. Very happy because a major corporation is publicly showing support for equality and that the add is obviously not being taken poorly in France.
... and sad, because America, for all our talk of freedom and equality, is nowhere near willing to accept that add.
I have seen this commercial before and I too wondered the same thing. Think that they chose to not use this add in America, because they feared it would spark too great a controversy. It actually shows a lot of cowardice on the part of Mickey D's if you ask me....
Here is Bill O' Reilly's homophobic response to the ad.
